TDK Corporation has been announced as an official global supporter of the World Athletics Ultimate Championship. As part of the partnership, TDK will provide a ‘TDK Smart Javelin’ equipped with TDK sensors to visualise performance data during a special javelin-throw demonstration session on 11th September by Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, Haruka Kitaguchi and other top javelin throwers, giving us a whole new look at what goes into an elite throw, showing speed, release angle, rotation, height and flight trajectory in real time.
This will give spectators a new way to understand the technique and performance behind elite javelin throwing. The information will also give athletes greater insight into their technique and performance. Improvements to the sensor module and software have enabled TDK to analyse and visualise the javelin’s movement in real time. While conventional competition results record the distance of each throw, the sensor technology can provide additional data.
