Glasgow Airport Announced as Official Event Supplier

Glasgow Airport has today been announced as an official event supplier for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.

Taking place from 1-3 March this year, the Championships will bring world-class athletics to the city, five years after the much-celebrated European Athletics Indoor Championships were held in 2019.

Over 700 athletes and up to 30,000 spectators are expected to arrive for the three-day event. Many of them will take their first steps into the UK through the city’s international airport, making the first weekend in March a busy period for travel to Glasgow, with the airport playing a huge part in the smooth journey of these individuals.

However, with Glasgow having just completed its year as 2023 European Capital of Sport, the city has a wealth of experience when it comes to hosting major events and welcoming athletes, coaches and spectators. The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships is the most recent in a long list of major events to be held in the city over the last decade.

Playing a key role in all of these events, Glasgow Airport is well prepared for the world’s arrival. They will host a dedicated welcome desk for international delegations, along with access to pickup and drop-off zones for all accredited personnel, making the arrival of competing stars as smooth as possible, allowing them to focus on the challenge of competing at the Championships.

Marc Findlay, Marketing Manager for Glasgow Airport, said:

“As the city’s international gateway, we are proud to be an official event supplier for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.

“Glasgow Airport has a proven track record in supporting the delivery of global sporting events such as the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the city-based UEFA Euro 2020 matches and most recently the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

“Our people not only deliver a fantastic first and last impression of our city, but they also create a lasting and positive one.

“Team Glasgow Airport is ready to ‘Go For It’ and we look forward to welcoming thousands of competitors, delegates, coaching staff and spectators who will visit the city and the wider region in a few weeks’ time.”

Billy Garrett, Director of Tourism, Culture and Events at Glasgow Life and joint Chair of the Local Organising Committee said:

“We are delighted to be able to announce Glasgow Airport as an official event supplier for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 24.”

“Glasgow Airport has always been a trusted travel hub for many generations of Scots, including myself, and we could not be more thrilled to be working with them to support the arrival of our athletes and accredited personnel ahead of the competition in March.

“Arriving in a new country can often be a stressful experience, but with the help and support of Glasgow Airport’s experienced and dedicated staff, we’re certain the journey to Glasgow will be a smooth one.”
